The State Government of Selangor’s technical professional development centre, Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDCx) and globally renowned low-code application development platform, Mendix – a Siemens business, signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with Orangeleaf Consulting, the leading low-code consultancy in Malaysia.

The event took place at the Hannover Messe 2024 trade show in Germany, the world’s largest industrial technology exhibition where companies from the energy, digital, and mechanical and electrical engineering sectors gathered to map solutions for the future of energy supply and manufacturing.

With topics exhibited including digitalisation, artificial intelligence, and machine learning, the strategic partnership between STDCx, Orangeleaf Consulting, and Mendix, aims to foster technological advancement with Mendix low-code, nurture local talent, and promote digital transformation initiatives within these industries in Selangor, Malaysia.

In tabling the 2024 Selangor State Budget in November 2023, Chief Minister Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari committed RM13.85 million to elevate the role of technical and vocational education in Selangor to a higher level.

Mendix’s low-code platform was catapulted into the Parliament spotlight as the cutting-edge technology set to transform the state’s technological development.

This MoU is in line with Selangor’s vision and mission.

Present as witness to officiate the partnership, Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari, said, “What sets Mendix apart as a low-code platform is its speed to market as opposed to the traditional form of coding.”

“Those who do not have a coding background can rapidly adapt to Mendix’s low-code and seamlessly develop software that caters to an organisation’s needs.”

“With such agility and robust capabilities, this partnership aligns with Selangor’s mission to promote technological advancement, reduce the digital divide, and further increase economic growth in the state.”

“We are committed to collaborating closely with Mendix and other stakeholders to maximise the benefits of this partnership.”

The Chief Minister of Selangor continue, “The State Government of Selangor will increase our role in designing a future of increased success for local businesses, coordinating with educational institutions, and spotlighting the yet-to-be-tapped potential of higher-end technical and vocational education at the community level.”

“This understanding with Orangeleaf Consulting is a testament to our commitment and we intend to invite similar partnerships with interested parties in this rapidly growing space of the digital economy.”

“Partnerships like this will push the needle to provide better and higher-paying job opportunities for the young people of Selangor.”

“ As a State Government, we intend to provide the best possible platform for Malaysia’s best brains to work in Selangor and compete with the world’s best,” added Dato’ Seri Amirudin Shari.

Ellice Ng Pui San, Chief Executive Officer and Co-founder of Orangeleaf Consulting said, “We are happy to be recognised as the sole consultancy in Malaysia that will be working closely with the Selangor Technical Skills Development Centre (STDCx) to equip the workforce with Mendix low-code technology that is needed to thrive in this vibrant digital economy.

“The mission of Orangeleaf Consulting is to empower businesses to achieve success through the strategic utilisation of advanced technology.”

“We believe that digital transformation begins with progressive milestones. Hence, our strategic partnerships expedite technological advancement in Malaysia.

Ng further explained, “There is great potential in the talent pool development in Malaysia, and low-code can play an important role in raising tech talent to compete locally and globally.”

“Low-code transforms the way programmers develop systems and applications. The traditional method requires coding knowledge, with long lead times and extensive headcount.”

“Low-code enables business users and tech individuals with different technical levels to build applications quickly and efficiently, utilising a visual interface through the Mendix low-code platform.”

“Today, business owners can complete their products or systems from concept to full-fledged enterprise operations with shorter development cycles because of the Mendix-low code platform.”

“Thus far, we have successfully groomed local tech talents to support businesses globally, especially with the rise of low-code solutions from various industry sectors. In the next three years, we aim to mentor 300 new Rapid Certified Developers in Malaysia,” Ng concluded.

Orangeleaf Consulting aims to focus on developing low-code talent in Malaysia through these key areas:

  • Training Programmes: Development of training programs to equip and increase local talents with proficiency in Mendix’s low-code platform.
  • Innovation Labs: Establishment of innovation labs to facilitate collaborative projects and drive technological innovation.
