Special payment of RM500 for civil servants in grade 54 and below, RM250 for pensioners

In tabling the 2019 Budget, the government had proposed a special payment of RM500 for civil servants in grade 54 and below to show appreciation to the efforts and dedication of the civil servants in discharging their tasks.

Finance Minister Lim Guan Eng when tabling the 2019 Budget, the first for the Pakatan Harapan-led government, at the Dewan Rakyat today also announced a special payment of RM250 to government pensioners.

“The total amount for the special payment comes to RM1 billion,” he said when tabling his maiden budget.

Lim said that compared to the previous administration which normally channelled the special payment next year, the Pakatan Harapan government would channel the special payment before the end of the year (2018).

In tabling the budget, Lim said the government would enhance the delivery of alternative services to reduce the role of the government in providing non-core services.

“This will be pioneered in the welfare sector through joint-ventures with the NGO (non-governmental organisation),” he said.

As an example, he said children from the orphanages would be moved to family-based care.

Lim said the government would allocate RM286.8 million for operating expenditure for the Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC), which was an increase of 18.5 per cent from the RM242.1 million which was allocated last year.

“The number of staff will be increased by 100 people next year to ensure that the MACC had adequate manpower to handle corruption and money laundering in the public and private sectors and to recover the assets,” he added.
