GROWING RESPONSIBLY
Since Olam was established 30 years ago, we have always committed to invest in the communities where we operate and be responsible stewards of the environment for future generations. Now that we operate end-to-end in the agricultural supply chain, our area of influence is greater. We describe ‘how we do business’ as ‘Growing Responsibly’ to encompass all these elements. Olam commenced operations in Indonesia in 1996, setting up its first coffee and cocoa operations in Lampung province. Since then, Olam Indonesia, with its head office in Jakarta, has expanded to Sumatra (Aceh, Medan, Padang, Lampung), Java (Bandung, Surabaya), Sulawesi (Makassar, Palu, Mamuju, Kolaka, Palopo, Mamase, Lasusua) and Maluku (Ambon, Seram) in Eastern Indonesia. Olam invested in cocoa plantations in Ambon in 2013, and in 2018 Olam doing business partnership with MITR PHOL in sugar mill project. In early 2019, Olam acquired BT Cocoa, one of the biggest Cocoa Processing factory in Indonesia.

Olam has an Induction Program for new employees to share information on the company, so the recruits know more about the company. Olam Value Workshops are held to provide knowledge about Olam Values and update employees on the company’s growth. These workshops are held in all business units and locations in Indonesia.

ENGAGEMENT PROGRAMMES
The Employee Engagement Survey frequently conducted by CSMM IMRB (Global Market Research MNC) and the last survey conducted by AON Hewitt. The survey includes work satisfaction, quality of work life, total compensation, learning & development, career growth, performance management, integration & cross-cultural sensitivity, supervisor-subordinate relationship, communication, care & concern, and other aspects. Results of the serves as a reference to create a high engagement workforce.

Meaningful engagement through some activities such as employee gathering, outing program, sports activities and employee workshop are frequently conducted to maintain our engagement with employees.

COMMUNICATION EFFORTS
Employee communication is an essential part of the business. Effective internal communication is important for developing trust within an organization and is shown to have a significant impact on employee engagement, organizational culture and, ultimately, productivity. Employee communication has been scheduled at least twice a year with a purpose to educate and build trust with our employee based fact on how Olam’s operate.
