Statistics from the Human Resources Ministry showed that nearly 12,000 plant and machine operators and assemblers were retrenched last year. This was followed by professionals, managers, technicians and associate professionals. According to Bank Negara Malaysia estimates, the youth unemployment rate in Malaysia was estimated to have reached 10.7% in 2015, more than three times higher than the national unemployment rate of 3.1%.
The Hays Quarterly Report tracks recruitment trends in Malaysia and reveals that sales & marketing talent in greatest demand over April to June are product managers, international export sales professionals and digital marketers. “These are the candidates in particularly strong demand but the overall market for sales & marketing talent in Malaysia this quarter is positive, says Tom Osborne, Regional Director of Hays in Malaysia.
The weaker ringgit has seen many Malaysian companies explore other regions to increase revenue. This is generating demand for export/international sales managers who have had prior experience in creating new distribution channels.
Tying all these factors together, Best Events Services, Making Changes PLT, Nooros Consulting and Aspire Consulting & Training will be running sponsored workshops to specifically harness selling skills to help reskill the retrenched and unemployed fresh graduate to fill the sales positions in companies. The main goal is to equip these participants, who will be grouped into those with work experience and those without work experience, with selling skills in order to get hired for sales or telesales positions by corporate sponsors or start their own business. Qualified participants will also receive a personality test and free group coaching for six months by Matrix Paradigm and ongoing support from our partners and us.
“In any economy, there are opportunities. The secret is knowing how and where to find them. If you’re willing to change your outlook, you can reap massive rewards, both now and after the economy recovers.” Hanniz Efni, Marketing & Special Projects Advisor, Making Changes PLT. “This program will help participants to not just survive, but actually prosper.”
Workshops will be available in Johor and Penang in 2018.
