india-6Yahoo! has leapt in to acquire the Indian startup Bookpad, a one-year-old company that hosts cloud-based documents. The deal is Yahoo’s first in India, and is rumoured to be worth $8.3 to $15 million. Bookpad is best known for its Docspad product which integrates into apps and services to enable document embedding and annotation. It supports a range of files types, including Word, Powerpoint, Excel, PDF, ODT, ODP, ODX, ePub 2.0 and image formats, while the application programming interface allows users to upload, download, edit, delete, check status and organize documents. Under the two year-plus tenure of CEO Marissa Mayer, Yahoo has bought more than 38 startups.
