A Melaka government state official has advised companies in the state which want to hire foreign workers to provide them with housing. According to State Unity, Information, Manpower and Consumer Affairs Committee chairman, Ngwe Hee Sem, this will help smoothen applications to hire them.
Once the companies do this (provide accommodation) a certification from the Manpower Department will be issued, which then qualifies them to apply for foreign workers. Ngwe mentioned that some firms in the manufacturing, plantation, and construction sectors are the ones which still fail to meet the workers’ accommodation requirement.
“They need to do this fast because since the reopening of the country’s borders, the list of applications to hire foreign workers has grown. They are now only waiting for the green light from the relevant ministry to allow foreign workers in,” he added.
