LinkedIn, the world’s largest professional online network, has released its annual Inside the Mind of Today’s Candidate study, revealing that more than half of professionals in Malaysia are committed to their current employer. The study further highlights that 58 percent of respondents state that opportunities for self-improvement are the main reason for them staying with the company for more than a year, followed by promotion opportunities at 39 percent, and a further 38 percent feel confident about their company’s future.

Interestingly, this signals that professionals in Malaysia are looking for fulfilment beyond conventional incentives, and focus more on opportunities instead. Beyond promotion opportunities, only 27 percent cited that advanced company perks and office amenities were motivators.

“The Malaysia talent market is well-established and professionals take ownership of their own career advancement. People often move to seek greener pastures when they feel stagnated at a workplace, or have unmet expectations. This makes it even more important for businesses to ensure they are able to establish a strong employer brand, clearly communicating their culture and values to attract the right talent,” said Feon Ang (pic) , Vice President of Talent and Learning Solutions, Asia-Pacific at LinkedIn.

The report also highlights employees’ sense of belonging as a positive driving force in Malaysia, with 67 percent saying they appreciate that their accomplishments are recognized, 60 percent are happy that they are able to express their opinions freely, and 59 percent are able to be themselves at work. These percentages are higher than the current global average of 59, 51 and 50 percent respectively.

“In an increasingly competitive workforce, job security plays a more important role today than ever before. Today’s employers are fully aware of the added advantages a loyal employee brings to the organization, and have taken steps to provide a conducive and rewarding environment for their employees,” added Ms. Ang.
Inside the Mind of Today’s Candidate report is a survey of more than 14,000 global professionals, which shines a light into the attitudes and habits of job seekers and helps inform strategies for HR, talent acquisition and business leaders, looking to grow their talent pipeline.
