The Mega Career Fair and Post Graduate Education Fair being held on 26 and 27 September at Mid Valley Exhibition Centre has attracted a strong crowd despite the current pandemic.
The fairs, which are organized by AIC Exhibitions Sdn Bhd are open to the public and feature over 40 employers and universities, including RHB Bank, Westports, Worldwide Holdings, Foodpanda, 99 Speedmart and more.
Tan Yong Keat, assistant general manager of AIC Exhibitions said, “We’ve recorded over 2,000 visitors on Saturday morning. Based on very strict SOP as mandated by the Malaysian National Security Council (MKN) and DBKL, we can only admit a limited number of people every hour; and all visitors must check in via MySejahtera and do their temperature scanning. Our social distancing marshal has also been going around the hall to ensure compliance by visitors. We call for all visitors to maintain social distancing.”
Tan added, “The turnout is higher than expected, most probably because of the current difficult job market due to the pandemic. The participating employers are trying their best to speak to as many visitors as possible as all of us have one objective in mind – and that is to help Malaysians get jobs.”
Visitor Nurhayati Ismail, 26, said, “I came down from Tanjung Malim with my dad to look for a job. I was a management trainee at a local company, but was given mutual separation in May. So far the response from the employers are positive but because they cannot do interview here, some have promised to call me for interview next week”.
Another jobseeker, T. Murali, 38, an engineer, said, “I’ve worked for the previous company for almost 10 years, but they’ve offered us half pay since April, with only 2 days work in a week. I’m here to try and see if there are other opportunities. I know it is difficult now, but if you never try, you will never know”.
