Malaysia’s Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim yesterday announced a more than 13 per cent increase in civil servants’ remuneration, among the highest in the country’s history. The increase will be effective December 1 this year. The last time the civil servants’ salaries were revised was 12 years ago, and the highest increase in the past was at 13 per cent. The increase would cost the government more than RM10 billion. Datuk Seri Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, made the announcement at the Labour Day gathering in Putrajaya Wednesday. He also announced that the overall minimum pay for civil servants must reach over RM2000. The current overall minimum pay which includes salary and fixed allowance is pay which includes their salary and fixed allowance is RM1,795 per month.
In a related development, the government spokesman Fahmi Fadzil said details of the salary increase for the 1.6 million civil servants will be announced during the tabling of the Budget 2025 in October.
