Malaysia aims to double its unionised workers throughout the country to two million. Human Resources Minister Steven Sim said as of September 2024, the number of trade unions in the country has reached 759 with a membership of 1.03 million. He said the target of two million was in line with the Trade Unions (Amendment) Act 2024 which came into effect on 15 September and aimed at empowering trade unions.
