Union wants male cabin crew after MH128 incident

The National Union of Flight Attendants Malaysia (Nufam) urged airlines to position more male cabin crew aboard flights in the wake of a passenger who threatened to “bomb” the Kuala Lumpur-bound flight from Melbourne last night. It said male cabin crews were better equipped to handle disruptive or dangerous situations as proven by their quick response to apprehend a male passenger aboard the Malaysia Airlines flight MH128 who had attempted to enter the cockpit and threatened to bomb the plane. In a statement issued today, Nufam said “The skill and readiness have proven once more how the crew members were quick to react… to the situation on board the Melbourne KL bound flight.

 

Malaysian PM elated with Malaysia’s robust economic performance

Datuk Seri Najib Razak said he was elated over Malaysia’s robust economic performance in 1Q2017.the first quarter of this year. Speaking at the National Export Council Meeting, Datuk Seri Najib, who is also Finance Minister, said Malaysia’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) grew at 5.6 per cent with higher private consumption and investment as the main driver of growth supported by better performance in the external sector. “Malaysia continued to register a trade surplus of RM18.9 billion,” he said. Datuk Seri Najib added that both export and import grew at 21.4 per cent and 27.7 per cent, respectively, to RM224.7 billion and RM205.8 billion, respectively, in the first quarter of 2017.

 

Employment in Malaysia rose for the first time since January

Malaysia’s average Internet connection speed is the 10th fastest in the Asia Pacific. , According to international content delivery network service provider, Akamai’s First Quarter 2017 State of the Internet Report, Malaysia has an average connection speed of 8.9 Megabits per second (Mbps), a 9.1 per cent increase from last quarter and a 40 per cent improvement from the first quarter of last year. “Malaysia’s 10 Mbps Broadband Adoption has also increased, recording a 17 per cent quarter-on-quarter change and a 179 per cent year-on-year improvement”.
