The Malaysian government has received a total of 475,678 applications for the recruitment of foreign workers as of 1 April, according to Human Resources Minister, Datuk Seri M. Saravanan. The applications are currently being processed, with 2,605 foreign workers already approved for recruitment in the manufacturing and plantation sectors.
Currently, the highest number of submissions from that total are for workers in the manufacturing sector at 290,248, followed by service (77,000), plantation (53,854), construction (43,519), and agriculture (11,037). There are also 20 applications for workers in mining and quarry.
The minister explained further that some applications could not be processed due to several reasons, including not providing complete or accurate information, and exceeding quota.
The government opened applications for the recruitment of foreign workers on 15 February.
