30% Club Launches Dame Helen Alexander Awards

In memory of Dame Helen Alexander, the 30% Club has created two awards and invites applications from across the world of business for the Dame Helen Alexander Award for the Most Promising Mentee, and the Dame Helen Alexander Award for the Greatest Commitment to Mentoring.

UBM plc, the leading global events organiser which was chaired by Dame Helen Alexander for five years, is supporting the awards. They will run the submission process and host an awards ceremony in June 2018.

These two new awards supplement the five existing awards which were launched last year by 30% Club’s cross-company mentoring programme run by Women Ahead, a diversity and development social enterprise which designs and delivers the cross-company mentoring programme on behalf of the 30% Club. The 30% Club and Women Ahead #InspiredByMentoring are now seeking nominees from participants in the 30% Club programme for Dynamic Mentoring Organisation of the Year; Inspirational Mentor of the Year; Committed Mentee of the Year and Dedicated Programme Partner of the Year. The two Dame Helen Alexander awards are open to all entrants, across the globe.

An experienced judging panel has been established which includes Tim Suter, Dame Helen’s husband, Brenda Trenowden, Global Chair of the 30% Club, Katushka Giltsoff, 30% Club Ambassador, Tim Cobbold, CEO of UBM and Liz Dimmock, CEO and Founder of Women Ahead.

Brenda Trenowden, Global Chair of the 30% Club, said “Dame Helen Alexander was an inspiration both to myself and many within the 30% Club. She was a brilliant mentor and leader over the years and we wanted to recognise Helen’s legacy by way of an annual award to reflect her values, leadership and approach, which also reflects our focus on the pipeline.  We are thrilled to have UBM as partners for these awards and hope that the calibre of entries is representative of the quality of promising mentees and committed mentors that exist on the global stage.”

Tim Cobbold, Chief Executive of UBM, said “UBM are delighted to support the 30% Club and in particular these awards in honour of Dame Helen Alexander. With her characteristically gentle humility, Dame Helen was a prominent and determined advocate for the contribution of women to business without ever allowing it to define her. In an exceptional business career, she lead by example and I know has been an inspiration to many, both men and women. I look forward to playing my part in honouring her legacy.”

The 30% Club was founded in the UK in 2010 and is a global effort with chapters in ten countries around the world.
