PT Bank KEB Hana Indonesia (Hana Bank) is an international bank that focuses on serving small and medium enterprises, retail and corporate segments with wide coverage in Indonesia across Sumatra, Java, Bali and Sulawesi. Supported by the synergy of Hana Financial Group – one of the leading and largest financial companies in South Korea, Bank Hana also provides an extensive global network with international service standards. One of Hana Bank’s leading digital service products is LINE Bank’s collaboration with LINE Financial Plus Corporation launched in June 2021 to further connect social life with users’ financial activities easily and safely utilising digital applications for daily activities such as non-cash payments and online loan facilities.
As typical to any organisation that has undergone rapid growth and transformation within a limited time period, the employees of the Bank experienced challenges in understanding other new departments or team roles as each employee focused on their own priorities and KPIs to ensure a successful transformation. For these reasons, the Management embarked on a variety of strategic initiatives that strive toward a collaborative and engaged working environment.
Transforming to New Post-Pandemic Workstyle
The dynamics of employer and employee relations have evolved in response to the pandemic where Hana Bank is forced to look into its business process differently and forced them to leap-frogged towards automation. It noticed how challenging it was to collaborate amongst working units as its organisation has expanded with the new business model, creating silos amongst themselves.
For these reasons, the Management introduced Leaders and employees with Lean Six Sigma as the tool to “Destroy the Silo”. This tool encourages Leaders and employees to collaborate cohesively, tackling challenges that may impede productivity. Through this initiative, Hana Bank aims to broaden employees’ points of view, build a network, and promote a holistic problem-solving approach that aligns with the company’s best interests.
This new post-pandemic workstyle is forcing the bank to break unproductive behaviour such as working with no empathy, not understanding what other areas do, thinking of their own area or interests, and transforming them with a new collaborative culture.
Building Sustainable People Strategy Starts by Engaging the Employees from the very Beginning of the Employee Life Cycle
In the relentless pursuit to achieve its mission, “Growing Together Sharing Happiness” with the employees as the most valuable asset for the company, it adjusted various programmes as they returned to work from the office. Hana Bank believe that building a sustainable people strategy must start with seamless automation in its Sourcing Strategy through Hana Bank’s career website, digital recruitment in the career platform and social media until the new employee joins the company via onboarding session and Buddy Programme.
From their very first day, Hana Bank is dedicated to offering unparalleled support to its Hana Bankers with complete guidance required for their first 90 days such as first-day activities, office policy, compensation & benefits, and information about its internal systems/applications. These initiatives provide direct assistance to newcomers, aiding them in overcoming challenges during their probationary period.
The Buddy Programme further facilitates new employee adaptation to the job and workplace to increase collaboration among employees. This programme includes office tours, introduction to senior levels, teams and related divisions.
All of these efforts are aimed at increasing engagement, and productivity and giving better experience to employees in the best work environment.
Having the Best Talents to Accelerate the Bank’s Performance
Talent is a crucial asset of the organisation, hence the Bank invests to ensure its best employees have the knowledge and skill to accelerate the Bank’s performance. Talent development programmes were created to suit individual needs such as certification, training, coaching, and collaboration projects.
