The West Java provincial government has collaborated with Japan’s Shizuoka prefectural government to hold a job fair on December 2 and 3, 2023, in Bandung to attract local workers to Japan.
Head of the West Java Manpower and Transmigration Agency Teppy Wawan Dharmawan said here on Saturday that the job fair has been organised by the two governments since 2021. This is a mutual benefit cooperation between West Java and Shizuoka.
The job fair, which is currently in its fifth edition, has so far absorbed at least 72 Indonesians into various industries in Shizuoka.
“We hope that this fifth job fair can absorb many workers from West Java who are competent and by the expectations of the companies participating in the job fair,” Dharmawan said.
The 5th edition of the “Fuji no Kuni Mensetsukai” Job Fair, he added, is offering 38 vacancies in 11 companies in the tourism, processing industry, fisheries, and other sectors.
“There are special requirements that these companies need; in this event, those companies will interview the job seekers before they can be recruited,” he informed.
Furthermore, he said that the job fair is aimed at resolving the high open unemployment rate in West Java.
Based on data from Statistics Indonesia (BPS), in August 2023, West Java’s labour force was recorded at 25.39 million, with the number of employed totalling 23.50 million, meaning 1.8 million people or 7.44% of the total labour force were unemployed.
Meanwhile, Japan is experiencing an ageing population, which has led to a decline in the number of productive labour.
“With such conditions, not a few workers are seeking opportunities to work abroad, including to Japan. This is a mutual benefit cooperation between West Java and Shizuoka,” Dharmawan said. – ANTARA
