Procter & Gamble Malaysia (P&G) held the first-ever P&G Malaysia Open House 2016 to attract and recruit local students from private and public universities and colleges to join the company. The Open House was attended by over 200 university and college students who received valuable, first-hand insights from P&G team members on how starting a career in P&G can develop them into leaders of today and tomorrow.

Mr. Ong Yuh Hwang, Country CEO of P&G Malaysia, Singapore & Brunei shared with the students how he started his first job at P&G 20 years ago and has since worked in four countries, over ten assignments holding local, regional and global roles. He openly discussed the challenges and adventures that he has had throughout his career. According to Mr. Ong, he has seen first-hand how employees are the most important source of P&G’s competitive advantage.

“I am very happy to be able to share my testimonial of the fruitful career that can come from journeying with P&G with so many of Malaysia’s young and bright minds! At P&G we pride ourselves in attracting and hiring the top talents in the industry as our strength lies in our talent pipeline. We believe this generation of technology-savvy and passionate youths brings a special set of skills with them and P&G is confident we can provide an environment that will celebrate their individual uniqueness and allow them to perform at their peak,” said Mr. Ong.

“At P&G, there’s no substitute for hands-on experience when it comes to leadership development. That’s why we create meaningful and challenging responsibilities for every employee from day 1. We start early to groom employees to prepare them for future roles, so as to build mastery and capabilities.” Mr. Ong concluded.

During the event, students also participated in a career panel session and a networking dinner where they had access to several P&G leaders and employees from various divisions. These sessions were arranged so students could engage with P&G and gain valuable insights on their successful career progression. P&G leaders are actively involved in the recruitment and mentoring process among tertiary-level students to guide students to maximize their skill sets with P&G’s internship program and full -time roles.
