Meta, the parent company behind Facebook, Instagram, Threads, and WhatsApp, is reportedly planning to cut some of its workforce. That involves the lowest-performing 5% of employees in the company. The move is expected to indirectly improve the company’s overall performance by reducing the workforce that is less performing than others. Mark Zuckerberg, in a memo, said that Meta usually sets a time of about a year to evaluate an employee regarding the targets and performance set, but now they are moving quickly and will remove low-performing employees.

With Meta doing this, it’s not impossible that other tech companies will follow suit, and fire employees who don’t perform as well as their colleagues. Meta appears to intend to fill these vacant positions with new employees in the future. As usual, affected employees will receive appropriate compensation.
