The Coordinating Ministry for Economic Affairs said the decision to continue the Pre-employment Card programme lies with the next government under President-elect Prabowo Subianto. The programme is deemed essential and beneficial for Indonesian citizens.
“We will keep pushing for the continuation of the pre-employment programme,” said the ministry secretary Susiwijono Moegiarso in a press conference on Wednesday, October 2, 2024.
According to Susiwijono, the pre-employment card, locally known as Kartu Prakerja, has become increasingly necessary, considering the various achievements the programme has gotten. Especially, he said, considering the issue of employment opportunities and the middle-class citizens.
“These issues are highly relevant, and continuing the (pre-employment card) programme would be very positive,” he said.
The Pre-employment Card is a training programme intended to improve Indonesian citizens’ work competence and entrepreneurship. The programme, launched in 2020, not only targets job seekers but also workers who want to improve their skills, laid-off workers, and micro, small entrepreneurs.
The Executive Director of Implementing Management for the Pre-Employment Card Programme, Denni Puspa Purbasari, said the government allotted Rp5 trillion for the programme, of which 99% is intended for scholarships and the rest for the programme’s operations.
The details, said Denni, are Rp3.5 million for scholarships with an additional incentive of Rp600,000 and Rp50,000 for a survey incentive. According to Denni, the programme successfully gains 1.5 million participants due to fund optimisation. For participants who don’t utilise 100% of their allowances, the fund is reallocated to other participants.
“So that we can serve or provide more opportunities for everyone,” said the pre-employment card programme director. – TEMPO.CO
