Malaysia’s Human Resources Ministry said there were more than two million foreign workers in the country as of May this year. The Ministry said the 2,307,746 foreign workers are from the industrial, construction, service, plantation, agriculture, domestic work and mining and quarrying sectors. The industrial sector recorded the highest number of foreign workers at 730,999 followed by construction (646,508), service (394,739), plantation (263,151), agriculture (171,103), domestic work (100,675) and mining and quarrying (571).
Some 19,934 companies have also registered under the Immigration Department’s Expatriate Services Division as of July 11. “Manufacturing had the highest number of applications at 27,012 followed by construction (8,981), business services (8,590), education (7,142) and the oil, gas and energy sector (5,424),” the Ministry stated in a written reply at the House of Representatives, Dewan Rakyat on Wednesday.
