Japan’s Toyota car assembly plant, which was officially inaugurated in Cambodia on May 2, 2024, plans to assemble 1,320 vehicles to supply the domestic market by 2024 according to the Ministry of Industry, Science, Technology, and Innovation’s report.

The Japanese Ambassador to Cambodia, UENO Atsushi, said at the inauguration ceremony that Toyota will contribute to the modernisation of Cambodian industry and human resource development in line with the Cambodian Royal Government’s Pentagon strategy.

He said Toyota Tsusho has been developing human resources for a long time, as the company has sent staff from Cambodia to Japan for training.

Toyota Tsusho plans to join development with local market suppliers to meet the needs of the Cambodian car market.

The ambassador said that the factory will also attract more investment from Japan; if the production is successful, the Japanese business community will consider Cambodia an attractive location for investment purposes.

Prime Minister Hun Manet, who presided over the inauguration of the Toyota Assembly Plant, said that under the umbrella of peace, macroeconomics, and human resources,

Cambodia will continue to attract more investors as the government has been facilitating investors by providing tax incentives and building road infrastructure.

“I would like to emphasise that the vision of the Royal Government of the seventh mandate is to promote the transformation and modernization of the industrial structure in Cambodia into an industry based on skills.

The Royal Government has given high priority to investment in all priority areas through the Law on Investment in Cambodia, with the subsequent launch of the necessary policies and strategic plans that are interconnected to create and increase high value-added employment,” the premier added.
