Deel, the all-in-one HR platform for global teams, has launched its Global Hiring Report for 2023, which puts Malaysia’s professional workforce on the global demand landscape.
The top five jobs that Malaysian workers are being hired for globally are interpreter, statistician, software engineer, virtual assistant and animator.
The recognition of these roles underscores Malaysia’s diverse talent pool and the increasing relevance of these skills on an international scale. The top countries that hire most Malaysians for these market segments are the United States (US), United Kingdom (UK), Singapore and Australia.
About 6% of individuals securing these positions fall within the age bracket of 16-24. This suggests a promising trend of early career success and opportunities for young talent to contribute meaningfully to industries that value their skill sets.
The majority of these in-demand hires, accounting for 45%, fall within the age range of 25-34, showcasing a significant concentration of mid-career professionals.
This group is a driving force behind the expertise and innovation observed in these specific roles, as they bring a blend of experience and contemporary skills to the global job market.
Similarly, the data indicates another 45% of these hires are in the age range of 35-44, showcasing a sustained demand for professionals with a more seasoned perspective and substantial experience in their respective fields.
This demographic segment plays a crucial role in contributing industry knowledge and leadership qualities to the positions in demand. Finally, the remaining 4% of the hires are between the ages of 45-54.
The report has also highlighted that despite a laser focus by many employers on return-to-office measures, global, remote hiring continues to climb and is expanding beyond technical roles to those like sales, customer support and content especially involving the younger generation.
The number of digital nomads globally has reached 250,000, marking a nearly thirty-fivefold increase from 7,000 in 2020.
“In light of talent shortages in many countries around the world, employers are looking beyond borders for amazing people. The Internet has made international labour markets more accessible, and the rise of remote working has fast driven the global hiring movement.”
“The State of Global Hiring Report provides insights from hundreds of thousands of employee contracts on the Deel platform across more than 160 countries from January to December 2023,” said Karen Ng, Regional Lead, Asia, Deel.
“Global hiring is no longer a unique phenomenon. With expanding markets and increased mobility options, there are endless possibilities to explore opportunities that extend beyond country borders and as a result, the war for global top talent remains heated,” she said.
Ng added that, “Businesses are also increasingly recognising the value of these diverse talents and global perspectives, and our findings show that the APAC region particularly stands out as a beacon for innovation, collaboration, and unparalleled opportunities.”
Global hiring grew 57% in APAC in 2023 and for the second-year running was the fastest growing hiring region tieing with Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).
As for most popular global roles, software engineers’ developers continue to reign in the top spot. London wins the top spot of the top five cities for global workers, ahead of Toronto, San Francisco, Buenos Aires and Madrid.
