Whatsapp group chats created specifically for work are becoming common in Singaporean offices, facilitating communication and quick responses among up to 50 people at once. The application inadvertently increased the pressure on employees to reply even on weekends, blurring the line between work and private lives. While the application is flexible and benefits employers who want to have work-from-home policies, employees said the constant buzzing on their phone from work-related discussions on multiple work-group chats can become “quite irritating” outside of office hours.
