Apple and Facebook will start paying employees to freeze their eggs. By offering this benefit, the companies are providing a chance for woman to pursue high-powered careers without worrying about starting a family later in their lives. According to fertility specialist Philip Chenettte, this nonmedical benefit can be viewed as a type of “payback” for women’s commitment since they devote much of their twenties and thirties to their careers. The perk however received criticism from parties to claim that it encourages the idea that women cannot juggle parenting and work.
