ABOUT ROBERT WALTERS HONG KONG

Robert Walters is a global, specialist professional recruitment consultancy. Our story begins in 1985, when our CEO, Robert Walters, opened the first office in Central London. Over the last 34 years the business has grown and so has our ambition. We now operate across 30 markets and employ over 4,200 people. It’s a powerful success story built on the strength of our people. Established in 1997, Robert Walters Hong Kong is an award-winning business specialising in permanent and contract recruitment across a variety of disciplines.

Our purpose is to power people and organisations to fulfil their unique potential. It goes beyond doing our ‘job’. It is the positive impact we have on our people, candidates, clients and the communities where we operate. It is the ‘why’ behind what we do.

WORKPLACE POLICIES AND PRACTICES THAT EMPOWER EMPLOYEES

In 2018, we invested to turn the Hong Kong office into an innovative and digital smart workplace. Instead of checking in to their desks every morning at 8:45am, we have embraced the rapid development of technology and revamped our systems – now all our consultants in Hong Kong are equipped with their own smart devices, which empower their work mobility and allow them to access flexible work arrangements.

With this culture of trust, brought to life through flexible working practices, we have greater employee engagement and productivity as consultants find it easier to stay focused and complete their work.

To leverage the technology that supports staff engagement, we launched Workplace by Facebook – our new intranet platform to improve communication and collaboration between colleagues in different offices and countries. Our consultants can now access the company’s information in an easier way and are better connected with each other.

WOMEN IN LEADERSHIP

As our culture has always rewarded effort and outcome over all else, we are proud to say that our senior leadership team in Hong Kong is gender balanced; with half of the key roles being occupied by women.

EMPLOYEE BENEFITS AND SENSE OF REWARD

Our best asset is our people, and thus we make the development and wellbeing of our employees our top priority. We offer outstanding earning potential, benefits and bonus opportunities. These include highly competitive base salaries, rental reimbursement and quarterly bonuses based on team profit share (not individual commissions). We also provide full support to working mothers, such as work schedules that best fit their needs.

We also have various incentive schemes, including bespoke annual Incentive Weekends for top performers. Last year, those employees were awarded a luxurious trip to Las Vegas, where they got the chance to meet top performers from other offices.

On top of that, we also have various incentive schemes to reward our consultants. To name just a few – Monthly Placement Incentive, Quarterly Stretch Target Incentive, Quarterly Millionaires Club Incentive, Advertisement Package Incentive and Global High Achievers Trip.

On the wellness side, we offer all employees in Hong Kong corporate rates to gym memberships to help foster a fitter, healthier workforce.

ENCOURAGING COLLABORATION WITH A DIVERSE WORKFORCE

Robert Walters embraces the principles of diversity and equality and we are an equal opportunities employer. We provide a working environment and culture that recognises, embraces and values differences. For example, we have employees from Europe, Mainland China, Japan, US, etc., working together in the Hong Kong office. We also hire staff with disabilities in order to empower them and help them develop their skills.

EMPLOYEE DEVELOPMENT AND ENGAGEMENT

We are committed to investing in our employee´s personal and professional development. We’re known for the quality of our training and we provide continuous professional development and learning opportunities to all staff. Apart from structured training on every aspect of becoming a successful consultant, our staff also receive on-demand mentoring from senior staff, peer learning and specially commissioned video-based learning.

We also organise various team-building activities, such as mid-year junk trips during summer, year-end Christmas parties and Friday drinks in the office, to ensure employee satisfaction and engagement. We aim to foster team spirit and build strong a corporate culture through open and cross-team communication.

We also encourage our employees to give back to the community by organising an annual Group Charity Day, providing charity time-off and also a charity trip to South Africa and Cambodia. A strong commitment to the local community is a trait we are proud of. Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) is about more than just supporting others – it is also about supporting and developing our employees.

EMPLOYER BRANDING WITH OUR GLOBAL NETWORK

Given our status as a leading global business we have a huge number of international career options. What sets us apart is that international careers are critical to our strategy, so we encourage these moves. Our international mobility programme allows successful employees to move around the world, building new businesses and strengthening existing ones. In the last five years, 190 people have moved internationally and 10% have moved more than once. For Hong Kong employees that successfully apply for global mobility, we will provide them with monetary support, such as housing allowance, airfare for them and their immediate family members and non-monetary support, including relocation advice and visa/work permit applications, etc.
