As the first overseas branch of Takeda Pharmaceutical, founded in 1962, Takeda Taiwan is now heading in its 56th year continue to bring high quality products to local patients and consumers, and push to provide medical resources to fulfill local market’s unmet needs. We aspire to be a Top 10 MNC in Taiwan, a patient centric & trustworthy company through innovation. In terms of people strategy, we also aspire to be the Best-in-Class Employer in Taiwan Healthcare Industry.
1. Solid HR Foundations to Support the Business
Takeda Taiwan was established 56 years ago, and we have strong HR foundations with well-designed HR policies, which are periodically updated to keep up with organizational growth. At the same time, we leverage technology to make the execution more efficient and effective. For example, we have an integrated internal HR system available for employees to manage their career development on-line, and they are able to search and apply for other job opportunities across Takeda globally via the portal. In addition, in FY2017, “Quality Conversations” program was launched across the organization for all managers and employees. The program helps build the culture of open communication and enhance the trustful relationships among individuals. All the employees and people managers are equipped with more solid skills and knowledge on how to build a successful career at Takeda through the platform HR established, and the culture of conducting “Quality Conversations.”
2. Optimized Learning & Development Resources for All Levels
- Learning Plan
People’s learning & development opportunities are the hallmarks of Takeda’s success. We focus on developing employees in each level by different learning resources. Employees will be provided all kinds of learning resources starting from Day 1 of New Hire Orientation and extending to leadership training, personal excellence, lunch & learn, and functional trainings depending on the needs and the conversation between employees and their line managers. In FY2017, there were 56 learning activities executed and the satisfaction rate by employees was 92%. - Talent Development
Talents are our valuable assets where we trust them to help Takeda reliably deliver innovative, high quality products to patients. Takeda Taiwan is committed to develop talents for the future using different best practices. The management team has diligently conducted the talent review twice a year, and we provide identified talents to be developed by leveraging Takeda talent development programs. These investments result in our achievement that in FY2017, 40% of the leadership positions were filled internally and 10 talents have participated in global and regional development programs.
3. Rewarding Practices in Compensation & Benefits
Takeda Taiwan strives to make our workplace a great environment to work for. We provide a total rewards system to build a 100% pay-by-performance compensation structure. This is tightly linked to our direction to drive for a high performing organization. Our benefit programs are mainly covered by these three categories:
- Work-life balance: For example, in addition to the common annual leave provision, Takeda Taiwan also provides full paid sick leave, floating leave and flexible working hours for employees to take care of their health and family when necessary.
- Health and wellbeing: All employees are eligible for additional commercial group insurance, annual health check, and influenza vaccinesubsidy. Annual health & wellbeing programs are also executed to encourage our employees to strengthen their personal health condition, by participating in company organized and sponsored programs e.g. competitions like 10,000 steps per day.
- Other rewards: Long-term service award to recognize long-service employees, and President’s award to recognize those outstanding performers of the year.
4. A Trustworthy Company with a Social Purpose at the Core
Takeda’s CSR approach is rooted in our patient-centricity and the creation of outstanding treatments that change people’s lives. Building upon a foundation of sustainability, we are committed to contributing to the long-term health of people through various CSR activities.
In FY2017, we launched an innovative program combining our employee health program with CSR activities initiated by employees. In the campaign, Takeda Taiwan would donate US$1 for every 10,000 steps from employees’ daily walking exercise. Over 100 employees across the organization in Taiwan participated in this 12-week campaign. To accumulate as much as possible within a limited time, many employees changed their commute routines, such as walking instead of taking public transportation, or taking stairs rather than elevators. Some also increased exercise time on weekends. After 12 weeks, the charity fund accumulated US$8,000 which is equivalent to NT$250,000.
To respond to the aging issue in Taiwan, we donated the funds raised by employee walking exercise program to Huashan Social Welfare Foundation who provides home-based geriatric day care for elderly people who are physically challenged, suffering from dementia, or those who live alone. Our aim was to bring better health and a brighter future to people across Taiwan. In the coming months, we will cooperate with Huashan to provide our employees a chance to do physical CSR volunteering, which enables them to contribute back to the society.
With 56 years of heritage, Takeda Taiwan has deep roots in Taiwanese society by providing our employees a great place to work, and our patients and customers quality treatment. At Takeda, “People First” is one of the key strategies to drive innovation because everything is done by people. In return, employees can contribute even more innovative ideas back to Takeda Taiwan, and to the society in the long run. This will help Taiwanese people live a better life, brighter future!
