Caring About Our Employees as a Person
At UOB Thailand, we put our people first by caring for their health and wellness. We also offer flexibility to our colleagues by providing benefits they can utilise based on their different needs. We believe that when people are empowered and fulfilled, they will be more engaged, strive for higher productivity, drive our performance and are motivated to advance their careers within the Bank.Fostering Wellness in every Aspect of Life
One of our new normal ways of working is hybrid work. Employees can opt to come to the office three days a week and can work from anywhere for the other two days.Additionally, our ‘Wellness - Shape Your Life’ programme takes care of our people in six additional dimensions:
- Mental: 12 hours of free counselling sessions with psychologists
- Physical: 11 staff-run social clubs
- Financial: Knowledge sharing sessions led by experts on topics such as investment, money management and retirement planning
- Career: Future skills training in areas such as AI, data analytics, project management, career planning and conversations with direct managers
- Intellectual: Ongoing sessions and activities to foster personal and professional growth such as Art & Mind, anger management and understanding different working styles. We also organise Better U Next Future Kids Camp for children of our staff to practice essential skills for personal growth.
- Social: Through UOB Heartbeat, we raise funds and provide volunteer opportunities in art, children's welfare, education and environmental care.
Supporting Work/Life Harmony
As there were many changes in 2023 resulting from the business integration, the Bank put forth additional efforts in emphasising our principles of diversity, equity and inclusion. We improved numerous benefits such as announcing paternity leave for male employees and full-pay maternity leave for 112 days. Additionally, we made staff loan adjustments with higher loan amounts and special interest rates for housing, home renovation, car and personal loans. We also encouraged employees to fully utilise flexibility programmes provided by the Bank, including staggered work hours, Flexi2, Happy Fridays (no meetings after 4:30 pm) and birthday leave. As meetings take an important part in daily work, meeting etiquette was emphasised by the Bank’s role model leaders throughout the year.
One of UOB’s unique aspects is our dedication to helping soon-to-be retirees prepare for their golden years through our Happy Retirement Series. The annual series include a field trip and an online application called Happy Retire Plus, which provides participants with a diverse range of engaging online classes over a six-month period.
Significant Increase in Engagement Score
In our 2023 engagement survey, 86% of employees stated they were able to manage their work and have the flexibility to maintain a healthy work-life balance. The productivity dimension score was 81%.Additionally, we have analysed sick day usage as another indicator. It was expected that the average number of sick days used by employees decreased by 6% from 2022. This decline in sick day usage and increase in work/life (4%) and productivity (2%) score can be seen as successful indicators for our bank workplace wellness programmes.
