The UOB learning programmes that digitally provide knowledge to better equip our colleagues with vital career skills include:
Better U – Helps UOB employees become aware of rapidly changing trends taking place in the banking industry. This programme is designed to help employees better understand the impact these trends have on their roles by equipping them with relevant skills to thrive in the changing environment of digital transformation since the onset of the COVID pandemic. The programme addresses five critical competencies, including Growth Mindset, Problem-Solving, Digital Awareness, Human-Centred Design and Data Storytelling.
Better U Phase 2 – After laying the foundation with the five competencies mentioned above, the Better U programme has transitioned to focus more on sharpening specific skillsets, such as Project Management, Data Analytics and Artificial Intelligence for our employees to become more specialised and marketable.
Better U Next Future – In addition to the Better U programme for our employees, we have also extended this learning opportunity to staff children ages 8-12 years old to learn about Better U’s five critical skills through Lego Education and other activities. Through this programme, children were better able to adapt themselves to digital transformation and change as the new normal through a variety of fun activities.
Functional Academies - HR partners with different businesses and supporting units within UOB Thailand to develop learning journeys that are specific to people development direction, including digital transformation of those units. These journeys are customised annually to meet the changing needs of each unit that we work with. These academies include Wholesales Banking Academy, Channel & Digitalisation Academy and Business Banking Academy.
In addition to preparing our people’s capability in advance, we have also transformed our workplace facilities to improve our overall productivity and drive our performance.
Two years ago, we made a plan to transform our offices to SMART workplaces in order to create a more high-performance workforce. The plan was achieved in 2022, when we moved into our new 30-floor head office building, UOB Plaza Bangkok, located in the heart of Bangkok’s lifestyle district along Sukhumvit Road. The environmentally-friendly building was designed under the smart building high performance workplace concept.
At UOB Plaza, we utilise technologies such as face scan, touchless access entries, auto dim lighting, air temperature adjustment, QR code scanning for reserving seats/meeting rooms and auto parking lifts. These features aim to reduce our carbon footprint, save energy, provide flexibility and better manage utility costs.
By transforming workplace facilities and preparing our people capability in advance, UOB Thailand’s business reached new heights in 2022. Our operating profit showed a strong growth of 5 per cent against last year.
