As our strategic position and core competency, Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion (DEI) is extremely crucial beyond environmental footprint in our sustainability goals. Incorporating DEI in our HR strategy and operating process, we not only are committed to fostering a workplace culture that thrives on DEI among team members from various background in a number of business units and functions, but also ensure that all HR practices are aligned with the DEI to make the best employee experience.

Despite the challenges of DEI awareness among our employees in organizational context and external stakeholders as well as supportive legal framework that would help reinforce and safeguard our DEI initiatives, our team cautiously create understanding and implement DEI initiatives using our strong change management strategy as follows;

Embedded culture and way of work

  • Amidst diversity of our team members, we hold “Work as One” as our way of work, reflecting hyper-collaboration among teams that cherishes diversity and inclusivity of all members, regardless of their background.
  • Psychological-safe environment: Our workforce encompasses a broad spectrum of backgrounds, from recent graduates to highly experienced professionals, and includes individuals of all genders and sexual orientations. We have both Thai and international staff, as well as team members with physical disabilities. Employees are encouraged to have open communication in a professional manner. This psychological-safe environment allows them to speak out and share constructive feedback to make the best of their performance and finally are evaluated based on their performance outcome and contributions to the organization.
  • Supportive workplace: Creating a workplace that is supportive for DEI involves not only cultural and policy aspects but also extends to the physical environment and facilities. Our office is designed to support the needs of our diverse employees. We provide facilities such as ramps, elevators, and accessible restrooms for disabilities and for all, a Muslim prayer room, a lactation room, unisex lavatory.
  • DEI is embedded in HR practices and operating processes from sourcing, hiring, developing, engaging, performance evaluating, and promoting. The focus is on performance and potential as well as valuing those who demonstrate our core values rather than sexual, race, or backgrounds.

Application of supportive laws, regulations, and global practices with effective communication

  • Equal Opportunity Employment (EOE) Commitment: At Siam Piwat, we champion EOE. We are steadfast in our commitment to assessing individuals based solely on their skills and potential without discrimination of age, gender, nationality, religion, or appearance. This principle is applied rigorously in our performance management and recruitment processes.
  • Disabled employees: Siam Piwat has been hiring disabled employees and also sponsoring them to participate in international contests for athletes with disabilities such as ASEAN Para-games and Paralympic. Recently, we provided financial support for wheelchair fencing athletes to join the IWAS Wheelchair Fencing World Cup 2023 in Nimes, France, reflecting our commitment to diversity and equality in Thai society.
  • DEI policy: Siam Piwat recently introduced a comprehensive DEI policy that incorporates anti-harassment and anti-discrimination measures and upholds human rights through 12 specific guidelines. Moreover, we have established a number of whistleblowing channels to ensure a fair and impartial investigation process for all reports.
  • Code of Conduct: Our organization adheres to a robust "code of conduct" that emphasizes equality, fair treatment, and respect among all levels of employees; and this conduct is also the foundation of our “Work as One” way of work.

Inclusive activities and campaigns

  • We have promoted “Future of Place” via DiversCity Building (Diversity + City) campaign, led by Siam Center, a business unit under Siam Piwat Group. This campaign has been supported by the United Nations Development Program (UNDP) to promote the community and celebrate diversity in all aspects such as nationality and equal health, while also seeking to attract Thai and foreign shoppers. The campaign ranges from social promotion, environmental advocacy and sustainable development to gender equality, among others.
  • In 2022, Siam Piwat was recognized as a role model for gender equality promotion at the Gender Fair. This is a proven record that we have always treated everyone equally to create the unrivalled, approachable and friendly experiences based on the harmony of different concept, which enables Siam Piwat to reign first place in the hearts of customers. We also won the UN Women 2022 Thailand's WEPs Awards for Gender Equality Workplace and Bronze Award for Excellence on Women Empowerment Strategy from the HR Excellence Awards 2022.
  • Siam Piwat initiated Citizen of Love: “Made by Beautiful People” to give persons with disabilities, children with special needs, and the underprivileged people an opportunity to showcase their meticulous craftworks at shopping centers of Siam Piwat. This zone is opened to increase awareness and sell products created by the underprivileged group in order to help create jobs and provide a source of pride for them and their families. There are 8 organizations we have cooperated with, namely Kamlangjai Project, the Vocational Development Center for the Disabled, Light for the Disabilities Foundation, etc. We are scaling up the project by expanding our collaboration with 11 more foundations this year, reinforcing its mission to never cease promoting and embracing diversity and inclusion.

Embracing DEI in the workplace creates a positive impact to Siam Piwat across various dimensions, the followings are some key evidences.
  • Innovation and creativity: As a leader in the creativity, we embrace DEI and make it tangible by collaborating with the Arts and Science in Integrated Innovation (BAScii International Program), Chulalongkorn University, having student interns to work in strategic projects. One of the proven ideas that came to life is our newly opened space called Next Tech, the world’s first tech community of the future era, where our interns shared their visions and ideas to it.
  • Brand & business impact: With our unique brand positioning, having team members from different backgrounds and expertise is beneficial for our brand proposition and offerings to match the ever-changing needs of our visitors. To name a few success stories, Siam Piwat – Siam Paragon – ICONSIAM recently won 3 world-class awards at Global Brand Awards 2023, reinforcing leadership as one of the best global destinations in the world.
