DEI at Manulife

Manulife Philippines sees diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) as key to fueling business growth and transformation. In this view, the company continues to create and implement programs, which aim to better cultivate a diverse workforce.

Our aspiration is to build and sustain an inclusive culture & brand, with diverse talent that drives high performance, until each one of us belongs.
  • Talent: building a diverse workforce that reflects and represents the communities we serve
  • Culture: cultivating an inclusive workplace where everyone feels that they belong
  • Community: partnering with community groups that provide DEI support

We bring this to life by:
  • Continuously improving awareness and representation of people from various cultures and ethnicities, and different abilities at all levels of the organization
  • Creating greater inclusion across the company through enhanced training and equip our leaders to lead inclusively, measured through DEI-specific performance goals
  • Supporting local minority communities through mentorship, education, and advocacy commitments
  • Establishing and embedding employee resource groups (ERGs) as a business resource, by pioneering more inclusive products, solutions, processes, and services to support growth.

Some key programs:

Equal pay and career opportunities – The company ensures that there are no wage gaps through regular wage audits, and pay transparency. Likewise, Manulife constantly evaluates its recruitment, promotion, and talent development systems for gender bias.

Safe spaces – Manulife strictly implements compliance with its code of ethics and anti-harassment policies, and cultivates a safe environment for all employees by ensuring it is free from discrimination and prejudice. Manulife also ensures access to reporting mechanisms for harmful behavior, followed by thorough investigation and assurance of corrective action, when and where appropriate. Manulife has an Ethics Hotline, which offers employees a confidential way to report suspected unethical, unprofessional, illegal, or fraudulent activity conducted by others associated with the Company. All information shared are kept confidential and all reports are taken seriously.

Employee Resource Groups

Manulife’s Global Women’s Alliance
Manulife’s Global Women’s Alliance (GWA) is an employee-led group, which supports and encourages the recruitment, development, and advancement of women throughout our organization across the 17 markets we operate in globally, by providing a network of opportunities in which women can be mentored, share experiences, and have fulfilling careers within Manulife. To date, it has over 5,000 members across the globe, with a growing membership base in Manulife Philippines. The GWA’s goal is to elevate the profile of women across the organization, inspiring and enabling each one to reach her full potential.

In Manulife Philippines, the GWA provides a platform that supports the attraction, development, and advancement of women. It has a solid community that celebrates women’s achievements and empowers them through various growth opportunities, and strong network and avenues to share insights, experiences, and resources for success. GWA also organizes various activities to support various causes that serve communities and help others in need.

The GWA also has a Mentoring Program that seeks to address every female employee’s development areas through leadership programs and mentor-mentee activities. These areas include leading a team, assessing employee performance, leading a business unit, work-life balance, career planning and development, among others.

Manulife PROUD (Professionals Reaching out for Unity and Diversity) promotes an inclusive workplace for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and queer (LGBTQ+) employees to promote their contributions to Manulife and its success. This employee resource group (ERG) likewise advocates for allyship across the organization to better promote inclusion, and offer greater support system to our colleagues in the LGBTQ+ community.
