Swiss Re is one of the world’s leading providers of reinsurance, insurance and other forms of insurance-based risk transfer. Through our work with clients we fulfil our vision of helping to make the world more resilient.
We have a distinct mission: Together, we apply deep knowledge, intelligent data and capital strength to anticipate and manage risk. That's how Swiss Re powers progress for our clients, helping the world rebuild, renew and move forward. Today 75% of risks – from natural catastrophes and climate change, to ageing populations and cybercrime – remain uninsured. We aim to change that.

Headquartered in Zurich, Switzerland, where it was founded in 1863, the Swiss Re Group operates through a network of around 80 offices globally. Our workforce of approximately 14,000 employees provide a wide range of technical expertise, enabling us to develop unique solutions and drive growth. Swiss Re is organised into two Business Units, each with a distinct strategy and set of objectives contributing to the Group’s overall mission. Through our strong financial position, we provide the security clients need, especially during times of uncertainty and transition.
Swiss Re has a long history in Asia Pacific and our Hong Kong Branch was established in 1956. Today, our workforce in Hong Kong comprises around 260 professionals with an equal representation across genders.
At Swiss Re, Asia Pacific one of the key high-growth regions in the years ahead and one of the key factors to our success is People. We are committed to invest in our people in APAC through a holistic and multi-year APAC People Strategy, which combines all people and cultural solutions into one overarching umbrella. Our People Strategy consists of four strategic pillars: Culture, Organisation, Talent and Leadership .
Culture: To cultivate an open, inclusive and flexible work environment to enable performance. The two flagship initiatives are:
1. Own The Way You Work (OTWYW)We understand that a trust-based work model gives employees the opportunity to flexibly manage how, when, and where to perform their tasks. This reduces stress, motivates individuals and drives performance. Our Own the Way You Work (OTWYW) initiative, which has been in place since 2012, allows everyone at Swiss Re to flexibly manage how they get their work done in a way that fits the company's needs as well as their own.
2. Diversity, Equity & Inclusion (DEI)
At Swiss Re, we embrace and build an inclusive and multi-generational workforce that brings together the best of differences in age, race, ethnicity, nationality, gender including gender identity and expression, sexual orientation, religious beliefs and physical disabilities.
One of our key aspirations in our People Strategy is to attract and engage talented employees from different backgrounds by living a flexible, inclusive and open culture where dialogue and different perspectives are valued.
We can only unleash the motivation and creativity of our employees if they can be who they are and feel included. Our DEI strategy sets out three target areas: (i) enable inclusive behavior through increased understanding and experiences for everyone; (ii) embed equity and inclusion in our core people practices; (iii) embed inclusion to drive diversity with a focus on Gender, Generations and Race & ethnicity.

Organisation: Enable infrastructure to drive resilience. The two flagship solutions are:
1. Resilience & WellnessWe are dedicated to build an environment that nurtures and promotes a culture of wellbeing at work in support of work-life harmony. When employees are in a good state of wellbeing and work-life harmony, they can develop their full potential, work productively and creatively, build positive relationships with others, cope with the normal stresses of life, and make a meaningful contribution.
We adopted a structured resilience framework which covers 4 aspects:
- Physical Resilience: empower employees to take proactive care for their health and prevent disease by championing healthy lifestyles (e.g. OTWYW, Nutrition, Fitness, Ergonomics)
- Mental Resilience: we strive for parity of mental health with physical health and create awareness and support in acute and chronic situations (e.g. Pathways, Swiss Resilience Day, Swiss Re-Dio)
- Financial Resilience: we support our employees to be financially resilient and able to care for their loved ones (e.g. Covid Allowance, Marriage and Childbirth cash allowance, Critical Care Leave)
- Community Resilience: we invest in our networks to help create more resilient communities around us (e.g. SwissReFoundation, NetzeroYou2 to reduce carbon footprint, Corporate Social Responsibility Leave)
We believe that reward has a fundamental role to play in attracting, engaging, developing, and retaining the talent that Swiss Re needs to succeed, and reward goes is much more than pay. To attract and retain talents, Swiss Re offers a variety of benefits to our people in addition to the wellness support listed above: work anniversary leave & treat, education assistance, continuous contribution award, new hire welcome package, flexi wellness etc.
Talent: To build capabilities and drive continuous improvement.
Learning and development plays a significant role in building up our talents and enabling them to grow towards reaching their career aspirations. Here are a couple of initiatives that demonstrate how we support our talents' journey to continually improve and develop their capabilities:- LearningOne
LearningOne is a smart digital one-stop-shop learning platform that brings together internal and external learning resources, providing a personalized learning experience to employees. Employees can access the platform anytime and anywhere using mobile devices. - Underwriting Excellence
The Underwriting Excellence Capability Programme is developed around 12 core underwriting capability clusters which allow our underwriters to continually upskill and enable our business to be future-ready.
Through our APAC People Strategy, we aim to strengthen the leadership pipeline to improve the quality and quantity of our leaders in APAC. Two signature initiatives that were introduced as part of this strategy are the Leadership Development Journeys (LDJ) and Assessment and Development of Senior Leaders .
