Employee Experience
Employee experience is an important factor in Prudential Singapore as it enables our employees to Connect, Grow and Succeed, and in turn deliver on one of our key strategic outcomes of “Best in Class People”. Recently, Prudential Singapore had the honour of clinching four awards in the Employee Experience (EX) Awards 2021 in the areas of recruitment technology, in-house candidate experience, employee upskilling and reskilling, and innovative and sustainable office design. In addition, we were also conferred the “Best Well-being Strategy 2021” award by Institute of Human Resources Professional (IHRP) and Engagerocket. Our overall company strategy is “Reinforce and Reimagine”. Reinforce refers to strengthening the foundation and the core of our employee experience strategy that is doing well, while Reimagine takes us over and above to rethink the way we do things. Hence, we took a leaf from our company strategy to reinforce and reimagine what employee experience looked like in Prudential Singapore.
When COVID-19 hit, we swiftly reimagined strategies to ensure that business continued to run smoothly while ensuring the wellness and wellbeing of our employees. We curated a Hybrid Work Playbook which helped our employees to optimise their work arrangements and provided best practices for online communication and meetings. We also offered employees a range of virtual collaborative tools to enhance the effectiveness of brainstorming sessions and meetings.
To upkeep our employees’ wellness, we took our wellness programmes online to ensure that employees continued to have access to resources that addressed their mental, physical and emotional wellness needs – all while allowing them to stay socially connected with their colleagues.
Innovative and Sustainable Office Design
Our office design, which we refer to as the “Workplayce”, runs on an activity-based work model where employees may choose the workspace best suited to their working styles and tasks at hand, appropriate in the new norm of Hybrid Work today. The office boasts a flexible, multi-use layout with an open plan and a minimum of enclosed spaces. Our large, multi-functional social areas such as the amphitheatre, café lounge, and pantries offer contact points for employees to come together and exchange ideas. Events such as our regular townhalls and wellness classes are also held in these spaces. We are honoured to be recognised for helping our employees connect, grow and succeed at Prudential. We have built an inclusive and flexible environment where diverse ideas are valued, have equipped our people with digital skills to be ready for the future of work, as well as rolled out programmes that support employees’ mental and physical wellbeing. We will continue to focus on engaging our employees in a holistic manner to ensure that they get the most out of their employee experience with us.

Diversity and Inclusion
Prudential Singapore aims to enhance employee experience by ensuring that there is strong focus on Diversity and Inclusion. We started a Diversity, Inclusion and Belonging (DIB) team that works to enable all our employees to feel included and a sense of belonging.Prudential Singapore started initiatives such as the SilverSurfers, where employees aged 51 and above are provided the support they need to grow and succeed in the company. Targeted support such as dedicated coaching for the SilverSurfers and ensuring that their feedback is taken into consideration for important matters such as HR policies were established.
Prudential Singapore also put in place other measures to make its workplace more age-friendly. In October 2018, we scrapped the retirement age to allow our employees to continue to work as long as they are able to perform their jobs well. In August 2019, we raised CPF contribution rates for employees above the age of 55, making their contributions equal to that of their younger colleagues. Through policies that reward employees based on performance, we hope to make our workplace more age-agnostic and productive.
In an effort to empower the women in our company, we started the “PRU Women Series”, which consists of a number of webinars lined up to enable women in our workplace. Ongoing plans are also being drafted to match interested women in Prudential with external coaches to aid them in their growth.
At Prudential, we aim to ensure that every employee feels included and is given the support required to develop - allowing all of us here to Connect, Grow and Succeed together.
Upskilling and Reskilling
In the area of upskilling and reskilling, we reimagined new ways of learning for our people – in 2020, we started a community of peer-trainers. Over 1,200 attendees have attended 13 sessions of peer training so far. As we reinforce agile ways of working, our in-house Innovation team and OPEX Academy offer Design Thinking training and Project Management certifications, to help our people gain new skills rapidly.More than 400 employees also took the step to be upskilled in the areas of Machine Learning and AI in Finance in 2020. And as a company, we clocked 41,000 learning hours in 2020, double that of 2019. On the Agency front, by 2021, our Agency force would have completed the Cert FPC Programme, which is accredited by the Institute of Banking and Finance, demonstrating our commitment to professional sales advisory.
