Our founder, Milton Hershey, had a vision to make chocolate accessible to everyone. His dedication to creating a better world continues to inspire our mission statement or as we call it, our purpose, of making more moments of goodness.
Our brands and values create a unique place in people’s hearts and minds, differentiates our business and inspires our future growth.
Caring for our people and communities, taking care of the planet, helping children succeed and making the best quality, affordable snacks for people everywhere to enjoy have driven us for more than 125 years and will continue to do so.
As part of the vision to make chocolate accessible to everyone, in 2015, The Hershey Company setup a new state-of-the-art manufacturing plant in Johor, Malaysia to cater the growing consumer demand from more than 35 countries in Asia, Europe, Middle East and Africa as well as supporting supplies to US and Latin America.

As the Covid-19 pandemic sweeps across the globe, manufacturing organizations including Hershey Malaysia faced significant operational challenges. Our first priority was to protect and to ensure the safety of our employee. Due to the limited supply of vaccine in the early stage, and fully controlled by Malaysia government, our HR team were looking for several resources and alternatives to accelerate and secure the vaccine for our employees. Fortunately, Hershey Malaysia managed to collaborate with other manufacturing companies under American-Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) members and participated in Public-Private Partnership Covid19 Industry Immunisation Programme (PIKAS), a temporarily on-site vaccination center (PPV) set up for this program. More than 500 Hershey employees and 3rd party associates took part in this program held in August 2021 and we are now 100% fully vaccinated!
This year, we continue our focus on the employees’ mental health and wellbeing during the pandemic and remote work arrangement. We understand that some of our employees experience personal challenges such as managing time and emotion due to working from home for long periods of time, depression due to deep longing for parents and families who have not been together for a long time, increased stress, and fatigue as a result of peak production season and some even had lost close family members due to Covid-19 pandemic. We had arranged for a series of webinars to raise awareness of pandemic stress, social injustice, and the impact on our physical, emotional, and mental well-being. We had also lined up a few virtual exercise challenges for our employees to take up in our effort to encourage them for healthy way of life.
Another challenge we faced during the pandemic was having to deal with the 60% workforce capacity restriction. This became tougher when a number of employees were quarantined due to close contacts or detected positive. The challenges became greater in managing the flexi labors headcount where we had to revamp the duty roster especially on the rest days of the team to enable the plant to run 7 continuous days to comply the 60% workforce capacity.
Despite of all these challenges, we had continued our efforts in ensuring we deliver the action plan on employee engagement programs through the Townhalls, People Leaders meetings, Hershey Ambassadors meetings, Teh Tarik sessions, Chocolate Giveaways in conjunction with major festivals celebrations, Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) and Sport & Recreations Club (SRC) activities and competitions virtually.
In Hershey Malaysia, we empowered our employees to seek their own career development and growth. We have developed some path for them to follow like the Multiskilling Program for the employees to enroll and upgrade their skills and levels. This program has been benefited by many since 2017 and it increased the productivity quality of the products by having skilled employees. For the Professional employees, we launched the Career Development Plan (CDAP) – “Own Your Career” program. In this program, we provided career plan, career talk and discussion to encourage the employees to take the ownership of their career development and growth.

We in Hershey Malaysia are truly honored to receive these distinguished awards as a recognition towards our commitment in making moments of goodness to our employees, whom are our greatest assets. During this unprecedented time of the Covid-19 pandemic, our value of togetherness is more important than ever— in the care and support for our employees, their families, partners and our communities, when physical connection is limited.
These awards motivate us to do better in continuing the legacy of Milton Hershey’s, do well by doing good. By building strong teams through diversity and inclusion, focusing on our employee’s health and well-being, and striving to make more moments of goodness through our products.
2021 also marks some sweet moments when Hershey Malaysia received recognitions from numerous bodies. In November, Hershey Malaysia has been selected by Malaysia Society for Occupational Safety & Health (MSOSH) as one of the MSOSH OSH GOLD 1 AWARD WINNER 2021 for 2nd consecutive year, under the category of Manufacturing & Chemical Sectors which is equivalent to a Very Good OSH performance. Hershey Malaysia had also received 2021 MY AMCHAM Cares Award from the American – Malaysian Chamber of Commerce (AMCHAM) for the 2nd consecutive year. This award was a recognition to our Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) activities and outstanding achievement of the key pillars to effective CSR programs. The highlight of 2021 would definitely be the Best Companies to Work for in Asia Award 2021 and to be selected as one of the winners for the WeCare™: HR Asia Most Caring Companies Award 2021.
The employees of Hershey Malaysia are our greatest assets, and we will continue to develop action plans to ignite passions, energize the team and steer the way for our employees to achieve the company’s vision of “Bringing Joy and Affordable Snacks to Everyone”. The best yet to come, the Hershey Malaysia Leadership team will focus on driving resilience, employee wellbeing, work culture and heavily invest building skills and competency of our employees in 2022.
