British American Tobacco (BAT) Indonesia believes that our talents and human resources are the biggest competitive advantage. We have a clear purpose of building A Better Tomorrow™ by reducing the health impacts of our businesses. We have a long and proud history of sustainability achievements, but today we are transitioning from being a business where sustainability has always been important to one where it is front and centre in all that we do.

The Company’s success comes from the support and commitment of the entire management team and the dedication, hard work and agility of each and everyone in the organization who work together to achieve the Company’s long-term objectives. Therefore, it is extremely important for us to provide a conducive work environment that supports the development and growth of our employees.

We constantly strive to develop a high-performance culture in BAT Indonesia in order to grow our business and people.

BAT Indonesia is guided by good employment principles in building a workplace that is conducive to the optimum contribution and enhancement of the employees. Such principles serve as the foundation in the formulation of the Company’s employment policies and procedures in accordance with the prevailing laws and regulations in Indonesia. These principles include:
  • Equal opportunity and non-discrimination
  • Internal communication and freedom in expressing ideas
  • Fairness and no harassment or bullying in the workplace
  • Fairness and no harassment or bullying in the workplace
  • Performance responsibility
  • Environment, Health & Safety
  • Self-development and learning

We have made some great progresses in delivering our Talent Agenda over the last couple of years and it is extremely reassuring to get some independent recognition of our hard work from Indonesia and overseas.

Relentless focus on the development of employees has been the key to BAT Indonesia’s success in fostering world-class business operations. The Company has leveraged its social media presence in the recruitment campaign and process, using LinkedIn, Facebook, and Instagram to showcase our Talent Brand. Our Talent Brand has been externally recognized and in 2020, for the fourth time in a row, we won HR Asia Award for Best Companies to Work for in Asia.

On top of that, BAT Indonesia has been certified as a Top Employer 2020. This recognition comes for the third time in a row. This award recognizes our commitment to ‘Attract, Develop and Retain’ the top Indonesian talent. This also shows the strong commitment from the management of the Company and Human Resources team in developing human resources.

2020 is different from the previous year. With the presence of COVID-19 pandemic, it indirectly allows all humans to adapt to this situation. Such as working from home.
This does not prevent all BAT Indonesia employees from continuing to be able to contribute to the wheels of the business. In response, we adapt to using a variety of technologies that can be utilized so that we can continue to collaborate with each other.

Under these conditions, we are committed to maintaining the well-being and health, both physical and mental, of our employees. We have put some extra effort into this. In terms of communication we have provided a digital daily bulletin, called "BentoelBisa" which aims to keep us connected and get the information needed during the Covid-19 pandemic. In terms of health, we collaborated with one of the digital health platforms by providing free doctor consultation services. This aim is to make our employees feel safe when they experience health complaints without having to physically meet a doctor for the costs.

We also realize that the current situation has a huge impact on the finances of everyone. Therefore, from the point of view, we provide a new platform, which is in the third party, for employees who need funds suddenly.
Simultaneously, we leverage the Group’s expertise to deliver leadership programmes to build a strong pipeline of our future leaders. We have an elaborate training portfolio that addresses several functional and leadership capabilities. In 2020 alone, the Company conducted 45.846 hours of training, including 1,102 hours of leadership training.

This adaptation has made us focus more on acquiring digital capabilities to support “A Better TomorrowTM”.

During 2020, we have recruited many new talents whose entire process we do online and use technology.

BAT Indonesia has also been running a Global Graduate Programme to develop future leaders. Through this programme, we invested heavily in the Global Graduates development over a 12-month period.

The carefully designed employee development programme has helped the Company grow its talents from within. In addition to enhancing the Company’s capacity, this also provided career progression opportunities to every individual in its workforce. In 2020, the Company promoted 29 managers and recruited 28 new managers.

BAT Indonesia is also committed to the development of local talents. Throughout 2020, the Company appointed local talents to positions that were previously held by foreigners. This is the result of continuous investment in their development starting from the Global Graduate Programme, including an opportunity for international exposures.

Diversity in the workplace is critical at BAT Indonesia. We deal with an extremely diverse range of consumers- therefore, it is important that we mirror the same diversity in our workforce. We actively monitor gender diversity in the Company to ensure that females are appropriately represented across different functions and grades. We aim for 39% women in leadership position by 2025

BAT Indonesia’s hiring decisions are based purely on merit in an extremely rigorous process. We do not consider gender, age, race, belief, background, or nationality in our hiring.
